Assistant Attorney General Leslie Caldwell, said that the Justice Department is "very concerned" by Google's and Apple's decision to automatically encrypt all data on Android and iOS devices. Motherboard reports she also said, "The move has been extremely controversial with the government, because it makes data too safe."

YouTube Ditches Flash for HTML5
YouTube announced it has finally stopped using Adobe Flash by default. The site now uses its HTML5 video player by default in Google's Chrome, Microsoft's IE11, Apple's Safari 8, and in beta versions of Mozilla's Firefox browser. At the same time, YouTube is now also defaulting to its HTML5 player on the web.

New Google Fiber Cities Announced
Google has announced the next group of cities set to receive gigabit fiber infrastructure. The company is concentrating on cities around four metro areas: Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, and Raleigh-Durham. Google also said it's currently looking into Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, and San Jose.

"I suspect you could also use an unregulated trebuchet to launch something over a fence, or perhaps an unauthorized weather balloon with a payload to drop something on your neighbor's lawn from altitude. Or a slingshot (although those might be illegal within city limits).
